Transcript from the Episode

Instagram reels quite simply is again another form of short-form content. So it was a TikTok ripoff. So they saw TikTok really scaling and taking the market by storm. And as Instagram and Facebook like the king of it, like they see an opportunity to be able to share a market, and then they go in afterwards. So Instagram Reels is basically Instagram's version of TikTok. And I've got a kind of mixed feeling with it. And this is just come from like practicing and really experimenting with the powers of it is really, really good because it's a new feature. And any new feature that you see on the platform, like they want it to take off the social media platform once they've spent millions developing it. So they need it to take off, they need people to use it. Therefore, any user that creates the short-form content 15-30 second content. But what happens is they will push that content as far as possible. Because they want people to see it, they want people to interact with it, they want people to take it and give them feedback on whether it's working or if it's not working. So with Reels it's about basically getting to the point really, really quickly. So thinking of a pain or a problem or a piece of content, which will grab people's attention, and then getting it out there and demonstrating in that 15 to 30 seconds.

The problem with Instagram Reels

Now what happens is, you may not get huge amounts of watch time because it's shorter form content, but what you will get is more views, and with more views normally becomes more engagement and therefore more followers that come to your account. Now, with the way that the algorithm is working right now, obviously I don't know the ins and outs of the algorithm, I just know from testing that I've done with what's working and what's not working. So you've got a battle to have with Instagram Reels, because you need to know whether you want more business, or you want more attention. And they are different things. Because more attention is not actually going to be it might be more views, it might be more impressions, it might be more reach. But it doesn't actually mean that you're building the credibility up in the same way that a longer-form video will.

So with Instagram, we want to create specific enabling social media platforms to be fair, a well-balanced profile. So like with me, I'd normally create one reel a week, which just showcases me talking for 15 to 30 seconds delivering by I guess, and awareness generating piece of content and people sit up and go oh crap, that's quite interesting. And then that then brings into my profile where they get more credibility building content, so more stuff that demonstrates how good I am or what I do. And that will be the same thing for your stuff, right. So you leverage where you can get more impressions, more views and more reach by creating the short-form content that the social media platform is encouraging you to create as a new feature. And then what you then need to do is make sure that when you generate the profile view so people to kind of check out your profile, that you then have in-depth credibility content that showcases how good you and your business are.

A lot of people have one or the other and actually is having a well rounded, balanced profile and using all the features, but in the most time saving and efficient manner because otherwise, you can just find yourself getting into a mess doing all of your marketing instead of creating a system which works for you.
