Sustonica

Sustonica is the first sustainability certification for holiday rentals worldwide. The standard is based on 10 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

We don’t require properties to install costly solar panels nor to change their heat pumps, instead we encourage owners and managers to switch mindset and do things like:

  • Converting your electricity to 100% renewable energy (achieved via a simple phone call to your supplier)
  • Leaving shampoo and shower gel that are not in single-use plastic bottles and that are free of microplastics
  • Switching toilet paper and paper towels to recycled paper – attaching a “Flow Restrictor” to the shower head to save up to 40% water per shower
  • Including in your digital guidebooks lists of local EV-chargers, off-the-beaten sites, local heritage sites, local produce shops, vegan restaurants, etc…

You then upload proofs for the things you have done that match the Sustonica criteria and for €49 you can display your badge on your website attracting guests that are conscious of the environmental and social impact of traveling… i.e. pretty much everyone today.

“65% of people would feel better about staying in a particular accommodation if they knew it had a sustainable label.”
